<title_raw>JCI London book swap - Launch of the JCI London Book Club</title_raw>

We are launching a JCI London Book Club where we are hoping to have a meet up every month to discuss a book which we have all being reading.

In order to prepare us for this we will be having a book swap and informal discussion at the LCC Building. This will be followed by a drink at O'Neill's nearby.

It is a great way to get rid of your pre loved books and replacing them with ones you have not read. The idea is that we bring a book for a book so if you take a book you must have brought a book for it.

 <title_raw>Public Speaking Club</title_raw>

Does the idea of speaking in front of a crowd make you nervous and stressed?

Do you wish you had more confidence when giving presentations at work?

Do you want to be able to practice public speaking in a friendly and supportive group environment?

If the answer to any of the above is YES, JCI London invites you to join the Public Speaking Club!

The Public Speaking Club is a new project designed to help people who have difficulty speaking in public and want to improve their skills. If you are already a confident speaker, the group will allow you to practice your skills in front of a receptive audience. Regardless of which stage you are at, the group will give you the opportunity to try out different techniques and styles of speaking and most importantly, receive constructive feedback on how you can improve helping you grow in confidence.

When booking, please confirm whether you intend to be a Speaker or an Observer. Observers are limited to giving feedback only.

If you would like to be a Speaker, you will be required to prepare and deliver a short speech lasting 4-5 minutes on a topic of your choice. It can be on anything you like!

Places are limited so please register your interest by following the booking link.

Karen is a highly respected serial entrepreneur with a career spanning three decades. In 1983 she set up one of the country's first telemarketing companies building the business to 200 staff and sales in excess of £4m before selling her share in 1990. She then ran a training and consultancy business from home whilst raising her young family.

In 2002 Karen launched her third venture, SimplySwitch, the world’s first telephone-based price comparison and switching service. Based in one of the UK’s most deprived areas, four out of every five staff were unemployed when they joined the company. Karen created over 100 jobs, raised £500k for charity and helped thousands of consumers save over £20m on their household bills. In August 2006 Karen sold SimplySwitch to DMGT (owners of the Daily Mail) for £22m producing x 22 multiple for her investors and an IRR of 165%.

Karen went on to launch Call Britannia in 2009 with a mission to create 10,000 jobs for the long term unemployed and those with significant barriers to employment. The business was conceived in a downturn and launched in a recession with £1m of venture capital funding.

Now Karen has now launched her fifth new start up – CrowdMission, the world’s first equity-based crowdfunding platform exclusively for social enterprises.
JCI European Conference 2012 (13th June, 2012 to 17th June, 2012)

 <title_raw>JCI European Conference 2012 </title_raw>

The conference motto “Enjoy…every first second” relates to the atomic clock which is situated in Braunschweig and provides the time of the day for the whole of Germany. In such an atomic clock the length of a second is deduced from the periodic vibrations of caesium atoms and transmitted directly, for example, to all radio alarm clocks and station clocks in Germany.

As a JCI member, you have the opportunity to attend several JCI conferences throughout the year. The two biggest are the European Conference and World Congress. JCI UK sends a large delegation to both. If you go along, you will:

see the big picture of JCI and learn how it works

bond with the people you’re travelling with

expand your network as you meet many international JCI members

make friends with open-minded, supportive people who will encourage you to reach your goals

have an enormous amount of fun.

Conferences offer high-quality training, lectures and keynote speeches (often on topics such as leadership, management and entrepreneurship).

They also lay on social events. During big conferences, different JCI countries host the evening parties. You could find yourself tasting sushi at the Japanese night, tucking into smørrebrød at the Danish party and slaking your thirst with sangria at the Catalonian evening.

JCI members find that conferences are a fantastic investment. You’ll come back feeling energized, inspired, and with a bulging contacts book.

<title_raw>No.3 The 'Business Magic Series' - 'Practical Productivity in 15 minutes a day!'</title_raw>

Business Magic @ Work - A special Series for JCILondon Member 3 of 3

Lee Warren and James Harwood from Invisible Training lead this hands-on session on practical

productivity. You’ll learn why ‘to-do’ lists are not a good idea, why your email inbox is usually overflowing,

and why the way you’re working causes as many problems as it solves.

In the session, Invisible Training will show you how to get your email under control and your in-tray empty

-every day, how to whizz through outstanding items using the ‘two-minute rule’ and how to implement a

structured and simple workflow system to make projects and plans move forward.

Drawing on the work of David Allen, Leo Babuta and The Alexander Technique, this seminar is engaging

and interactive and everyone will leave with several practical tools for immediate use. After the

presentation, Lee and James will be happy to take questions and help with ‘real-world’ situations.

Who should come?: Anyone who has more than 10 outstanding emails in their inbox on a regular

basis, and anyone who has ever felt ‘snowed under’.

A FANTASTIC new series of business insights, skills and tools to learn and apply in your own organisations.

Watch this space and book a slot in your own diary for each session, which will be delivered by Magicians with experience as business coaches who use psychological and theatrical techniques to deliver visible results.

JCI Global Partnership Summit 2012 (25th July, 2012 to 27th July, 2012)

 <title_raw>JCI Global Partnership Summit 2012</title_raw>

Active Citizenship for a Better World

"Looking ahead to 2015 and beyond, there is no question that we can achieve the overarching goal: we can put an end to poverty ... But it requires an unswerving, collective, long-term effort."
-United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

Why Global Partnership?
Imagine a better world. A world with no wars, no poverty, no sickness. Now, how are we going to get there?

No single entity can answer the world's greatest challenges alone. The three sectors each have a unique and crucial role to play, and only through collaboration will we realize the better world we are working for.

At the 2011 JCI Global Partnership Summit, active citizens from around the world united with leaders of business, civil society and government to explore ways to work both individually and collectively to enhance grassroots efforts to advance the UN MDGs. In 2012, we're taking action to apply these powerful ideas to our countries, our communities, our backyards.

Through interactive discussions, workshops and case studies, JCI members, partners and participants will engage these concepts viewed through the unique JCI perspective as the leading global network of young active citizens.

Objective
The Summit will focus on arming active citizens with the tools and information necessary to impact their communities through targeted action and strategic partnerships.

Expected Results
The Summit aims to accomplish the following

Engage thought leaders from the three sectors to explore best practices in collaboration, leading the conversation with the unique JCI perspective

Highlight strategic partnerships and how they can be implemented at the local level to build a better world and advance the UN MDGs

Showcase stand-out projects from all three sectors to motivate and inspire active citizens to create positive change

Participants
The Summit is open to all members of JCI. In addition to JCI members, a number of UN officials, representatives of JCI's global partners as well as Global Compact companies will attend. Normally not more than 200 people attend so it is a great opportunity to get to meet and socialize with people you otherwise only see from a distance.

2012 the JCI World Congress is back in Asia.

Have a look at the beautiful logo, do you see it's a dragon? You can read more at the website: jciwc2012taipei.org

Logo Concept

1. Year 2012 will be the year of dragon, according to the Chinese Zodiac. Coming out together with the dragon and the number of "2012" means the combination of eastern (the dragon) and western (4 digits) culture.
2. The dragon is the leader of 12-animal symbols in the Chinese zodiac. JCI is the leader of young entrepreneurs' associations, JCI Taipei is the leader of JCI local chapters in Taipei Metropolitan Area, and Taipei is the leading metropolis city in Taiwan.
3. A jumping dragon means an active leader. The dragon was drawn in Chinese calligraphy painting and in form of circled ribbon. The circle means "completion" - success and achievement.
4. 2012 is drawn by calligraphic painting too and was in form of colorful clouds. Clouds 2012 rises and accompanies with the jumping dragon going toward to JCI (in form of its official logo) and the World Congress. The whole picture presents to keep moving forward year by year. This idea is very similar to "Be Better" concept from JCI - always stepping toward a better world!
